Water water every where

Okay so not so much everywhere. But the body is composed of water about 50% for Females and 60% for males. Its very important to ensure you keep a good ratio of water are it is used by the body in so many ways. Keeping hydrated is important and so very easy to do however 90% of the population doesn't maintain a healthy level. Soda, pop or what ever you call it is not very healthy. Most have a lot of calories that your taking in and can really throw off any weight loss program. Diet soda  is just as bad since artificial surges are used to sweeten the beverage not to mention the acid and flavorings added. Over all these play havoc on the body and just not good for it. There are many studies out on the Net a quick Google search will give you lots to read on.   Juice is just as bad on surgery compounds  and usually contains 5-8 servings of fruit than what the body needs. Also juice is high on carbs which makes it great when your sick or need to recover but over all you shouldn't

Post Workout Meals: On the Slim Hot dogs

Image
After a long heavy work out I like to have something a savory. Here I am having grilled chorizo sausage on thin sliced whole grain bread a spread of chinese mustard to give a bit of kick and alfalfa sprouts. On the side low fat cottage cheese, sliced tomato, and a sliced kiwi. The tomato, kiwi and cottage cheese I have found goes well with this meal as it gives a cooling to the spicy sausage and mustard. 2 Thin slice whole wheat bread 5 grams of alafafa sprouts 2 small tomato's sliced 1 kiwi sliced 2 Chorizo sausage 1 tbs of chinese style mustard 3 tbs of low fat cottage cheese

Something Yummy: Okra Crisps

Image
On one of my trips into Crest I came by something instresting Okra that has been dehydrated. Okra crips is what they are called and can be purchased in bulk for not  to much money. They have been making a good chip alternative when I have a sandwhich or just need a snack. There is almost no salt high fiber and moderate carbs. I usually can't just eat one but have to get a handful. I was able to pick up a Huge bag for about 9 dollars. You might want to give them a try for a crunchy snack. Avaiable at Crest Markets.  Also aviable on Amazon .

Humanity is losing the war. The once-mighty space navies have been crippled, officers and crew have been stretched to the limit, and Earth herself has come under heavy attack. The end cannot be long delayed. For Admiral Smith and the crew of HMS Ark Royal, the stakes have never been so high. The one hope is to make contact with alien factions that might oppose the war. But, as Ark Royal sets off on a desperate diplomatic mission, it rapidly becomes clear that there are both human and alien factions that wish to fight the war to the bitter end - and that her previous missions have sown the seeds of success...or total failure. ©2014 Christopher G. Meals: Frig Diving 04152015

Rumble, rumble goes my stomach today while rummaging around in the frig looking for something to eat for lunch. Staying "Healthy" can be hard when caught with out anything prepared and needing it fast. Today's time flies by with us spinning around in our shoes when trying to get this or that done.  So putting something to eat can be a difficult decision. The first step is keeping things in the frig and pantry that you can throw together. Today I so happen to have a left over tomatoes, cottage cheese, English muffin and in the far back of the pantry a can of tuna.  From the frig I pulled out some frozen Kale that didn't get used when making a casserole. So slice up the tomato and scoop a few spoons of the cottage cheese dose the deal. Toast up the English Muffin to spread the on the tuna with some warmed in the microwave kale does a decent sandwich.  From these we get a small amount of Fat which is all good fats that is needed by the body. His third interstellar tour is different in every way. Rather than meeting up with a primitive society, this time he's headed to an advanced world. Tau Ceti, better known as Tech World, is the central trading capital of Frontier 921. McGill figures he's lucked out. The assignment looks dull but luxurious. Tau Ceti boasts a planet-wide city with a trillion inhabitants, all of whom are only interested in making a few credits. But all is not well on Tech World. In the 20th century Earth sent probes, transmissions, and welcoming messages to the stars. Unfortunately, someone noticed. The Galactics arrived with their battle fleet in 2052. Rather than being exterminated under a barrage of hell-burners, Earth joined their vast Empire. Swearing allegiance to our distant alien overlords wasn't the only requirement for survival. We also had to have something of value to trade, something that neighboring planets would pay their hard-earned credits to buy. As most of the local worlds were too civilized to have a proper army, the only valuable service Earth could provide came in the form of soldiers someone had to do their dirty work for them, their fighting and dying.

You don't need to toil away in the gym for a couple of hours per day, doing tons of sets, supersets, drop sets, giant sets, etc. (As a matter of fact, this is a great way to stunt gains and get nowhere.) Motivation - Part 2

This is Part 2 of the Motivation articles that I am writing to show how I have been staying motivated on loosing weight and getting healthy. Staying motivated is a head game that you have to plan with your self. So keeping health and fitness on your mind or running in your subconscious is the the trick. This will influence your choices as your go through out your day. So the way I do this is reading up on fitness articles and good healthy habits.  This also lets you discover and put together a new life style  together on the way you want to live your life. Yes that's right I said put together a new lifestyle. If your battling the bulge you have a poor life style or made poor choices. Yes it's time to be honestly to face facts and deal with it instead of ignoring it. I made lots of poor choices as I have grown up and now it's time to correct those. Retraining your brain is the best way. Brainwash! Maybe? At least your doing your own brainwashing on purpose. Clean out the cob

Keeping it Healthy - Garlic Rosemary Grilled Chicken

This week I'm going back to the basics and keeping it simple. This week I prepared the normal chicken breasts on the grill. With the temperate warming up it's that time to fire up the grill so after preforming the cleaning on the grill and getting it all prepared for the new season I started some coal to fix the chicken. Depending on your tastes you will have to adjust the below. The sauce: 3 Splash of Fish Sauce 3 table spoons of Minced Garlic 4 pinch of Dry Crushed rosemary 3 table spoons Olive Oil 2 pinch salt 4 Grinds of black pepper After grilling the chicken as its still hot dump the chicken into the Sauce coat and then rest. After 4-6 minutes toss and coat again in the juice and sauce that has came out.  I am pairing the chicken with frozen broccoli  that I steamed in the microwave. For the carbs I using brown rice with a little bit of cinnamon and paprika.  After all the cooking is finished I weighed & measure it all out. Then box it up into meals for the

Something Yummy - Quest Nutrition Chips

Thank you Quest and Dodsons! Stopping into my local neighborhood health food store (Dodsons)  I found they are starting to stock the Quest Protein Chips. Needing to increase my protein intake so I'm not feeling so hungry in the evenings and not cheating so bad with out feeling guilty about it I picked up a couple bags to try. Next day when I was starting to get hungry I was able to pop these out with a bottle of water and was very satisfied for the rest of the day. They have about 20 grams of protein and 5 grams of carbs so pretty freaking good for a chip. The flavors range from Barb Q, Cheddar and Sour Cream, Salt & Vinegar, and sour cream & onion. The all taste pretty good for a health food and they make a nice edition to my lunch bag. Where to Buy: Amazon

Update - 03/18/2015 - 255lbs

Ok after a nice week and a half vacation I'm having to do some back track. After the vacation I went up to 258 pounds. Which is actually pretty good I think. I did enjoying my self a little on eating with out keeping track of any thing. I'm currently back down to 255 this week. Just another 4 pounds to loose to put my back to where I was. Which shouldn't be to hard. I've had to go back and recount my caloric intake and found that I was eating to many unplanned snacks because of being raging hungry in the evenings. So to settle the craving I was hitting the snack machine. Going back over my notes and so forth I have stepped up my protein intake. This has did the charm of making my feel fuller and more satisfied over all. (Take you Quest Protein chips) I've also taken back to doing some Casein before bed. So I'm not waking up so hungry then carrying that hungry through the morning when breakfast doesn't satisfy. Also Increasing fiber (ground Flax seed Suppleme

Marcus reveals that men aren’t immature or broken; they just need clarity, purpose, connection and the support of other men.

Something Yummy - Chili Sausage Rice - 03142015

As everything I experiment with recipes to make things simple and easy to cook to maintain a healthy lifestyle. I cooked this in a batch like most things. However I made use of the slow cooker this time instead of the Oven and Stove top. I've been reading up on slow cooker recipes since soon it will be summer and who wants to turn of the oven when it's so hot. So its easier to have a slow cooker going than a oven all day. Started with the rice and water for 3 cups of rice I started this cooking for 2 hours. The total end time is 8 hours. I have a automatic shut off slower cooker so this can be made at anytime and it will turn itself off. So it's a easy meal to start before breakfast and be ready by noon. Note that I don't list how much of each spice as I just spice my food to my taste and everyone's taste is not the same so experiment till you find what you like.

Something Yummy - Chicken Pasta Mix - 03122015

Going on the past recipe for the chicken I have fixed in the past I used a different version of the pasta side that I fixed the prior week. I baked the chicken breast as before with the Goya Spice and sliced it up as usually then put it in with the below version of pasta. As before started off cooking the pasta to just shy of al dente. Drained part of the water till I had about a cup of pasta water remaining. Then added in the other ingredients into the pot. followed by mixing everything well. I skipped the cup of chicken stock in this version. Mix it well and dished it out into servings that meet my daily in take of protein and carbs.

Gadget - KeySmart

So I saw this in an article from the Art of Manliness website as an advertisement for the KeySmart . I was very intrigued by it and though OK it's cool I want one. If it can do what it describes then it should solve the Pocket Budge of my Keys.  Oh it took care of that and more! It has slimmed down the key into a very easy to carry in my pocket especially in my tight jeans. I love it so much and it was fairly each to put the keys in and screw together. I found that I was also able to use one of my Kingston USB Flash drive into it also so very much a bonus. The price is a bit steep but I think it was well worth the $20. There are different Colors to choose from and also a there is a titanium version.  Check it out and get yourself one. You can Order on Amazon Also! KeySmart

Something Yummy - Quest Nutrition Protein Bars, Cinnamon Roll

Its end of the Month and that usually means it's time to restock on protien bars the after working out refuel after working out at the gym. So I have started picking up Protein Bars at the store and found that the Cinnamon Roll and Peanut Butter version of the Quest Nutrition Bars fit the $ Bill. They give a good stack of protein and Carbs to help the recovery processes in building muscle and refuel me. They taste pretty good and are not gritty like some thing or have a bad after taste. The great thing about them is there is NO SOY unlike most others. If you have been doing your research it's not good news for Soy products for the Male.   So kudos to the makers. There are other flavors but these two I like and usually buy a box each time I am stocking up. They make a good snack also when you just have to have something when your Shoe starts to look appetizing to eat so I keep one with me just about every where I go. Gadget - Fitbit

I've been wearing a Fitbit for over a year now and thought I would review it for those that are looking for something to help with fitness and loosing weight. This is one of those things that I bought long ago and never really used much after the initial fail of 2 months that most people go through. IT seems people will keep something for either 2 weeks or 2 months then fail or loose interest or give up. This was the case for me. However I picked it back up and been wearing it ever seen. It needs to be charged about once a week which is very nice. And usually only take an hour when plugged into the wall outlet.  When I bought it it was about 110 US dollars initially but they have come down in price now and there a several version to choose from now.  I have the simple one as seen here.  I have been thinking about getting the nicer one now that also monitors the pulse.  The initial Fitbit I bought the band broke with in 3 days. I was able to return it and get a new one. I've had

Update - 2/23/2015 252 pounds

Time for an Update! I'm at 252 YAY! So since Aug 18th it's now 53 pounds that I have lost in the last 6 months. The target is about 190 or 9% body fat which ever comes first. The reason that I say this is cause I am doing heavy lifting and putting on muscle so that does change things. My height is 5'11 close to 6 foot from what i can tell depending on what chart you go by the optimal weight for a 5'11 male is 180. However I am pretty broad shouldered and thick so I figure around 190ish should be a good goal to go for.  I've gone from a size 50-52 down to a size 40 at this point. Looking pretty good in cloths however I still have alot to loose. But happy with what I see so far.

Getting Organized - Food Storage

So when putting together meals and especially a lot of meals together (since I cook in bulk quantities) space became an issue in the frig and freezer. Also trying to fit two meals in my lunch bag that I take to work become an issue as well. I found that the Glad and Ziploc containers work well to setup single serving portions. They are Washer, Microwave, and Freezer safe plus no BPA so they are perfect. These hold up well and the only time I have had a couple break was when I dropped them on the floor when I pulled them out of the freezer. But if they are just cracked you can use the broken ones to plant things in. The crack allows the water to drain out. One make a scoop out of them also. They are still useful if you put your mind to it.  I usually keep an eye out when they go on sale and stock up on them. They are handy through out the house to store things in. When I am not using them they stack really well into the cabinet and don't take a lot of space. I can get a serving of

Something yummy - KIT's Organic Dark Chocolate Chili Almond

So working out at the gym  I like to have something to eat to help with the muscle recovery and growth. So I have tried several things out there to fill that chocolate craving. and the Clif KIT's Organic Dark Chocolate Chili Almond   has been a pretty tasty treat after working out. It's pretty much a brownie in form and I really do love it. I had originally pick them up on whim at the local Natural Groceries store on a whim to try out. I'm glade I did. The chili flavor only makes it better and it's not really hot at all.

The Make Over

So I wanted to give an update on my current weight. As I posted I have been struggling with weight loss for a long time. Starting at 315 I'm not down to 254. YAY! I had the extreme pleasure or wearing an old favorite shirt then I have not been able to wear for the last 15 years. I keep that shirt around cause it was the shirt I bought at Philmont Scout Ranch the first time I have ever been. So the shirt has special meaning to me. I promised myself I would never get rid of that shirt. I had always thought about mounting it on the way with my Philmont Patches, photos and items I had collect from that experience. As it made a very big impression in my life when I was growing up.  Least to say I am very pleased.  I didn't make the goal I had set up of 240 by New Years however I am still very please as I know I have most more fat as I have put on a lot of muscle that can account for as I have lost 5 pant sizes currently. The target weight is 185 if I can manage it or even 190. I w

Project - Home Built NAS

So for awhile now I have wanted to have my own Network Attached Storage - "NAS" unit for awhile now to store my Media and backups from my other devices (Computers, Tablet, etc.) It would over all save space on my other devices plus allow my to manage the content far easier than having it spread out amongst the other devices.   I've used Western Digitals Personal Cloud and other similar products before however space was always an issue and  the older generation of these devices offered little to no ability to Upgrade them. So Its time to build our own NAS device. Searching around I came up with some options. 1. Take an old PC and Convert it into something. 2. Buy and build a box specifically for it. Being tight on the budget I opted for the first option. Having several older PC's laying around made this a simple choice to re-use what I got. So I found an Older PC that had 8gig of RAM with a 8 Core AMD processor. Perfect for the job a little more power than needed but

Practicing Mindfulness: An Introduction to Meditation Meditation - the technique of mental focusing for enhanced awareness and self-mastery - offers deep and lasting benefits for mental functioning and emotional health, as well as for physical health and well-being. This practice is closely related to "mindfulness," which Professor Muesse defines as "a deliberate way of paying attention to what is occurring within oneself as it is happening. It is the process of attentively observing your experience as it unfolds, without judgment or evaluation."

My Story

For those that do not know me and about my struggle with weight loss.Like most of you I have had a hard time losing weight.  The heaviest I have ever been was 230 pounds and I swore I would never end up that way again. Well it started happening again the back pain got worse and the more my sleep was affected.  I once again found myself at 215 pounds again. I knew I had to do something life changing as it was the only way I would achieve loosing the weight. Note that I went pretty drastic at this point and wouldn't recommended doing the same thing I did as I made lots of changes in a two weeks. But this is how I approached the problem and it worked for me. Spending several hours online reading up on best methods to loose weight I ordered a workout videos and printed out some articles.  Grabbing a few paper bags and trash sacks I went into the kitchen and got rid of anything that was fried, processed and pre-packaged. I got rid of all the soda and juice in the house.  After that th

Weekly Meals

Weekly Meals In a series of posts I'm going to put up what my meals look like and currently eating. Hopefully this will give you the readers an idea on the many options on eating healthy other than chicken breast and brown rice. After all you can only eat so much chicken breast and brown rice before quitting all together cause you give up.  Note here that I prepare my meals head of time and in bulk. This is purely a cost and time saving method for me. Also this is a method I can stick to and avoid over eating less often as I tend to eat what ever is in front of me so this limits my caloric intake.
